Beacon Cricket Club has been presented with the ‘Ron Fenton Fair Play Trophy’ for exceptional player etiquette during the 2018 season, after the club achieved its highest league finish in over 20 years and umpires rated it the best ground in County One.
The Ron Fenton Fair Play Trophy is presented to teams competing in County One, who are marked on their fair play and respect towards officials and the opposition on a weekly basis throughout the season. Beacon achieved a staggering fair play score of 93% and the award was presented to club captain Craig Thomas at the recent Cornwall Cricket League (CCL) AGM by CCL President Clive Rosevear (pictured).
The award caps an incredible twelve months for Beacon, having finished third in 2018 to achieve its highest league position for over 20 years, and already scooping top spot in the County One 2018 ground ratings, with a score of 83.85%.
Speaking shortly after the CCL AGM Darren Proctor, Chairman of Beacon Cricket Club commented: “The Club is incredibly proud of its achievements over the last twelve months, all of which are a product of years of hard work by its members on and off the field. Winning the Fair Play Award is particularly pleasing given that the first eleven were able to find the optimum balance between playing hard and achieving the clubs highest league finish in over 20 years, whilst playing within the spirit of the game”.
Darren continued: “We are also thrilled with the ground ratings, our groundsmen are all volunteers and ex-players of the club. The unprecedented number of hours put in by head groundsman Colin Thomas in particular has made a huge difference to the surfaces the teams play on each week and has no doubt contributed to our league position. The club continues to push forward with further developments planned ahead of what we hope will be another very successful season in 2019”.
Beacon kick off their 2019 league campaign at home to Gorran on 20 April, players wishing to join the clubs preseason training sessions are welcome to do so, all details can be found on the coaching and training section of the clubs website (beaconcc.weebly.com). Details of 2019 youth training programmes will be announced soon, in the meantime interested parties are encouraged in email [email protected] for further details.
