Summer 2017 is well underway in the village of Beacon (near Camborne), with a fantastic turnout to the first All Stars Cricket session on Monday evening.
All Stars Cricket is a new initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and aims to "offer boys and girls aged five to eight a great first experience of cricket".
Eight one hour sessions are to be held over eight weeks, with the emphasis on fun and being active. Children who register via the ECB’s simple online process, at the cost of £40 also receive personalised kit to get them started, including a backpack, bat, ball, shirt, cap and water bottle. The fun doesn’t stop after eight weeks at Beacon CC, as sessions will continue throughout the summer, at no extra cost.
Head Youth Coach Darren Proctor commented: "The sessions have been designed by the ECB to give the children their first introduction to sport and physical activity. Across the eight weeks we will be covering basic skills such as catching, throwing, batting, bowling, running and teamwork, amongst others. My fellow coaches, (David Williams and Matt Floyd) and I are also ECB qualified and we have received additional specialist training to deliver this programme."
Simon Tripconey attended the first session with son Dexter and said: "Dexter loved the first session, it was great to see him making new friends and getting stuck in, he’s been keen to start playing cricket for a while and this is the perfect opportunity. Parents were encouraged to get involved and the new kit means we can play in the garden all summer!"
