The future is looking bright at Beacon Cricket Club as the club re-enter the Cornwall Cricket Youth League with the re-emergence of their Under 11 team. The resurgence of Beacon’s youth set-up began 2 seasons ago and has continued to grow each year. Last season the youth section grew even further with the club becoming an All Stars Cricket Centre delivering the ECB’s excellent All Stars Cricket programme which offers ‘a great first experience of cricket’ for 5 to 8 year olds.
Those keen to train with the club’s new Under 11 team will not have to wait long, with indoor training due to start on Monday 29th January, 5:30-8:00pm at Camborne School. Further sessions are planned on the 12th February, 12th March & 26th March, all with a small charge of £3 each to cover the cost of the hall.
The club are excited to again be running the All Stars Cricket programme in 2018 and in an effort to provide additional cricket and added value for money the club will be extending the 8 week programme throughout the summer, which weather permitting could extend to up to 14 sessions. Head Youth Coach Darren Proctor commented: "A return to youth league cricket at Beacon is fantastic news and is a product of all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at the club. Last year’s All Star Programme was incredibly popular and we’re really pleased to offer the programme again in 2018. Our setup will now provide a progressive route to players from the All Stars into the club’s youth section and eventually into the senior teams. The club welcomes any new budding cricketers that want to get involved with open arms".
Beacon CC’s senior teams are also looking forward to starting winter training at the Cornwall Cricket Centre, Truro College on Friday 19th January, 8:00-9:30pm, after gaining promotion back to County 1 in 2017. In total 7 sessions have been organised on alternate Friday night until 13th April 2018. Darren continued: "With our 1st XI bouncing back to County Division One at the first attempt last season we hope to see a lot of interest in the adult sessions, which will offer training to anyone keen to play in our 1st XI, 2nd XI or Evening League teams. We all hope to see some new faces!"
