Beacon Cricket Club capped off a successful season at Tolcarne Road on Saturday, posting 276/6 and bowling a talented Penzance 2nd team out for 139 to cement their place as Division 2 West Champions.
Beacon have enjoyed success both on and off the field with the second team continuing to be a competitive side in division 4, and the evening league team narrowly missing out on reaching the semi-final. The clubs adoption of the ECB’s All Star Cricket programme has also seen the youth section grow to over 40 players.
Chairman Darren Proctor commented, “it’s fantastic to see, the club growing from strength to strength and the first team have shown great character to bounce back to County 1 cricket after a one year absence, while the seconds and evening league team have had brilliant seasons”.
Darren continued, “this success would not be possible without the support off the field from the volunteers working tirelessly on the ground, preparing teas, scoring, umpiring and coaching. Support from all our sponsors has helped tremendously, with JDS Properties and Developments, L Manna Carpentry and MJH Sports Massage supplying playing kit and polo shirts”.
Players were pictured in their polo shirts with Matt Hart, Director of MJH Sport Massage before Saturday’s game. Matt said; “it’s great to support the local community, I work with a lot of the senior players at Beacon to help them stay on the pitch and play, so it felt like giving back to the club was the right thing to do”.
In three short years MJH have established links with a number of local sports clubs and grown from a start up business to being fully-booked almost a month in advance with over 1,000 clients.
The introduction of ‘cupping therapy’ has given MJH the ability to help more local sports people do what they love. The innovative treatment involves suction cups being placed on the muscles after sports massage to speed up the recovery process, and is used by a number of international athletes such as Steph Curry (NBA Star), Michael Phelps (most decorated Olympian of all time) and Sonny Bill Williams (New Zealand International Rugby player).
Beacon’s season will draw to a close on Saturday when the first eleven travel to Bude to take on Launceston in the Division 2 final.
