Beacon Cricket Club has been presented with the ‘Ron Fenton Fair Play Trophy’ for the second consecutive season.
The Ron Fenton Fair Play Trophy is presented to teams competing in County One, who are marked on their fair play and respect towards officials and the opposition on a weekly basis throughout the season. Beacon achieved a staggering fair play score of 92.3% over the 2019 season and the award was presented to club captain Craig Thomas at the recent Cornwall Cricket League (CCL) AGM by CCL President Clive Rosevear.
The award caps a fantastic 2019 season for Beacon, having also finished in the top three for the second consecutive year, equalling its highest league position for over 20 years in 2018.
Speaking shortly after the CCL AGM Darren Proctor, Chairman of Beacon Cricket Club commented: “The Club is incredibly proud of its achievements over the last twelve months, all of which are a product of years of hard work by its members on and off the field. Winning the Fair Play Award is particularly pleasing given that the first eleven were able to find the optimum balance between playing hard and maintaining the clubs position in the top three of County One.”
Beacon also collected their latest ECB Clubmark accreditation at the CCL AGM, a requirement of all clubs competing in Cornwall’s top two leagues that shows the club is sustainable, well run and provides a positive environment for its members. The accreditation also means the club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for cricketers of all ages, assuring parents and carers that the club is the right option for young people.
“We are really pleased to have been awarded the Clubmark accreditation again until 2022”, continued Darren. “A lot of hard work goes into ensuring the club is a safe and welcoming place to come and play cricket.”
Beacon’s senior teams kick off their 2020 preseason training programme on 30 January at Redruth School. All players are welcome, regardless of ability with sessions taking place weekly at 6pm, until 2 April. For more information visit; https://beaconcc.weebly.com/coaching--training
Details of training for youth and all star groups will be announced via the Club’s website and social media ahead of the 2020 season.
