The addition of a new 19-digit electronic scoreboard has been a significant part of the works, generously majority-funded by Penzance Cricket Club’s ‘Club, County, Community’ initiative.
Members have worked tirelessly over the winter to overhaul the existing scorebox structure to house the new scoreboard and an electronic anti-vandal security shutter.
A commemorative granite plaque has also been installed as a permanent gesture of the club’s gratitude to Penzance Cricket Club and its Chairman Neil Tregarthen.
A raft of fundraising efforts and volunteer hours has also seen the community-first cricket club introduce a new facility adjacent to the pavilion that will house a scorebox area for scorers to follow the game, and control the new scoreboard remotely, whilst also housing new changing and washroom facilities for female players and officials.
Beacon CC has already seen exponential growth in female members with numbers tripling over the winter period and well over 30 children registering for its ever-popular ECB All Stars (ages 5-8) and Dynamos (ages 8-11) programmes that commence in May and run for eight-weeks. Beacon has already announced it will extend its programmes throughout the summer at no additional cost.
Darren Proctor, Chairman at Beacon Cricket Club commented: “This winter’s facilities upgrades represent another significant milestone for us as a forward-thinking cricket club and the community we serve. We can’t thank Penzance CC’s ‘Club, County, Community’ initiative enough for making it possible.
“The upgrades follow the recent refurbishments to our pavilion, bar and toilets, bringing facilities in line with some of the best in the county and further investment and development is already planned. The addition of a dedicated female changing room with showers, is one the Committee is particularly pleased with, supporting our ethos of being here to serve our local community and provide spaces and facilities for all”.
Neil Tregarthen, Chairman at Penzance Cricket Club said: Penzance Cricket Club and its ‘Club, County, Community’ initiative is very pleased to offer support to Beacon CC. Our mission is to look beyond our own boundaries and work with other local clubs to strengthen the links between cricket and the community, not only enhancing participation in our great game but also boosting the status of Cornish cricket clubs as pillars of their communities.
Beacon Cricket Club is continuing to encourage registrations for its Dynamos and All Stars programmes and invites adults with an interest in the game to attend its training sessions.
